Well the ground here is still covered in snow but its been very warm lately… maybe up to 10 degrees C. Doesn’t sound like it compared to many of my friends further south but here thats the bloody tropics after months of -3 through 3 degree weather. Brr….
Tomorrow is the start of yet another trip to Tokyo. One that I had planned long before I knew we were moving out there… I’m going Thursday but Ryohei will be coming out Sunday morning and we are going to meet with a realitor to look at a couple of apartments. We are looking in the Sumida-ku and Koto-ku areas in particular on the Shinjuku and JR Sobu lines.
Also Sunday/Monday is our 2nd Anniversary so its nice that we get to spend it together in Tokyo. Maybe we will get lunch at a nice place to do something to celebrate it.
I think the sunshine is contagious and things have definitely been better here. I think the close it gets to spring and our move the more excited we are both getting.
Unfortunately I don’t get the next project from my trans. agency since I’m going away this weekend but my contact said she will be in touch for some projects later in March. If I can do 2-3 6000 character projects a month that sets me up pretty well for spending money and adding to my savings and so far things have worked out with working while Sakura naps or is asleep so crossing my fingers that it will continue.
Also will be getting my 2nd Hello Work check on Tuesday. I’ll be getting a bit less than last time because I “worked” for a couple days on my translations but still not complaining!
Sakura will also be 7 months (WOW) at the end of this week. That seems so hard to believe. She is scouting and rolling about like a madwomen. She also can feed herself baby crackers or (very clumsily) with a spoon. We are still having many night time awakenings. I don’t think she’ll ever sleep through the night… I doubt she will until she is weaned and who knows when that will be.
She is sleeping in the same room as Ryohei and I but we are considering giving her “her room” when we move although I suppose it depends on the layout of our new place. We are thinking of getting a 3ldk and a lot of the ones we are looking at have connected tatami rooms which aren’t super great at blocking out noise.
Anyways – watching the figure skating while Sakura makes her way dangerous towards computer cords on the ground… why are babies just naturally programmed to want to get into everything dangerous. Oh and Sakura has no teeth – no sign of them either. I started teething at 5 months and had 4 teeth by the time I was her age so maybe shes just going to be a late bloomer. Shes so advanced in a lot of areas I guess I was just expecting her to get teeth… but hey sounds like I’m lucky shes not since boobies plus biting are not something I’m looking forward to dealing with anytime soon.
Today was a good day!
Sakura “woke” me up at 7:30ish and we went downstairs and turned on the olympics where I watched the snowboarding and then the figure skating. Sakura took an hour long nap or so, so I got some cleaning done and then Ryohei took a half day from work so he came back and we went to have lunch at Bikkuri Donkey (a hamburg steak place) and the dropped by City Hall and the Tax Offices to turn in some paperwork.
The I came home and found an email from my translation contact person saying there were very pleased with the work I did and asking if I would do another rush translation job this weekend and another batch of the same materials I translated for beginning of March.
So here I am translating again while my husband and baby sleep upstairs its a bit more difficult than the last one I did but its funny how things come back to you! I’m remembering my big words again and turns out I’m still able to collect most of my unemployment insurance as well – yay!
Only sad-ish news is looks like we won’t be moving to Tokyo as soon as I thought… we probably won’t be moving out until the first or second week of April meaning I’m going to miss fullbloom sakura in both places!! GRR >_< Personally I’d like to go ASAP… but I guess we’ll see… Ryohei is pretty thrilled about going to Tokyo now. He keeps sayings “it is really ok for me to be going?”
But yah~ hmm it was a good day. Tomorrow no plans except working on the translation but Sunday we are dropping by Ryohei’s grandmas since she hasn’t seen Sakura since New Years or so.
Anyways back to work!! Ahh… so good to be using my brain, and of course getting paid for it too 🙂
Sneaking this under the raider in the last 5 minutes of the night!
– Getting translation work after… god knows how long
– Making new foods that surprisingly work.. I made a very Japanese takikomi (boil it all in the rice cooker together) with hijiki, chicken, carrots, and aburage and got rave reviews! I also FINALLY made Sophie’s Cinnabons… and they turned more like mini-apple pies for me but were very yummy and met with same rave reviews.
– Apartment searching —— LOVE IT!
– Starbucks Sakura drinks and new mugs!
– The 37 inch TV… I still think its too big for us but I have to admit it sure is pretty!
– My beautiful baby girl who laughs all the time. Sure being home together can get really tedious but I love how she lights up whenever she sees me.
– Sakura’s love of Ryohei. If she lights up when she see’s me she absolutely glows when he gets home from work. He’s her have person by far and it is soooo cool to see them together!
Alrighty~ I minute left until Friday
And shout out to my looooovely friends Khea and Lulu on the last minute of their day of birth

Still on a semi-high from Sunday’s news. However the reality of what needs to be done to get from Point A to Point B is overwhelming. Not EXACTLY sure how we are going to get everything done in time.
First we need to find a place to live as.. we have to give 1 months notice we are leaving Friday and then after that slowly begin packing and moving our stuff down to Tokyo.
Ryohei wants to apply for this special rent program and live in an apartment beyond our means at a price that is still beyond our means but still less than the original price. I don’t know… we will have to see. Unforunately moving at this time of year is not so great to find amazing apartments because everyone and their mom are getting transfers and moving this time of year.
I have an area in mind where I would really like to live but doesn’t seem to be anything in the price range that is either big enough or close to the station.
Its not a horrible dilemma by any means but moving is stressful and I really have no idea what are going to do with Sakura when moving out… I’m hoping that one of my lovely Tokyo friends will maybe watch her for a bit while we are moving in so she doesn’t get squashed by a box or anything haha.
Its been freezing and snowing lately but that isn’t getting me down much… knowing that in about 5 weeks I will be busting out of this joint. Ryohei doesn’t seem so thrilled about us going… I think he is happy but hes just been really annoyed at me lately. Maybe its a man period.
Anyways Sakura is this|close to becoming dangerously mobile. She isn’t crawling yet but pulling herself along and rolling if she shes something she wants. Unfortunately what she wants includes computer cords, the heater, and drinking glasses….. when we do get it, the new apartment is going to have to be baby proofed right away.
Well looks like I’ll be trading in my riceprincess crown for some city slickers (at least for a couple years) since the word was handed down that my beloved will be transferred to Tokyo from this spring. As in… roughly 6 weeks from now – holy crap.
But YAY!! Ever since we got the news that this move was a possibility 3 months ago I couldn’t help but get my hopes up for the chance to get out of here and move to the big city where I have friends and more opportunities… and now someone up there must like me (or at least want to make amends for the crappy year that was 2009) and my dream came true!
The “official” transfer notice hasn’t been released yet but Ryohei was assure by his boss that he is 100% going.
So…… now we have about a month to find a new apartment in Tokyo and MOVE from our current place.
Lots and lots and lots of stuff to do… as we haven’t gotten the official notice yet I’m not sure if we will be getting moving compensation but I really hope we do as we’ve accumulated a scary amount of stuff in the last 6 months since moving here.
So yah… it really is sort of a miracle that Ryohei in his 2nd year is getting such a nice position and hopefully if he is successful we’ll be able to stay for 2,3 years or maybe more.
In any case we are for sure going to be there until spring 2011 which means no Niigata winter next year. HALLELUJAH!!!!!! I think just knowing in less than two months I will be enjoying the sakura season in Tokyo I can handle whatever winter crap the last 2 weeks of the month decide to throw at us.
Anyways stay tuned as I’m sure there will be a lot to talk about as we prepare to de-inaka ourselves in the VERY near future.
